5 questions for Wintherland
Tell us about your background!
I have no professional background in the design and art industries and no education in the field either. I actually have a Master in Business and Economics and a lot of criminology courses under my belt! When I finished my education I knew that I wanted to work more creatively and I had already started my own company, creating interior decor items on my free time. Even though I don’t work in the field of my education I still use the knowledge I gained over the years in my everyday business, such as accounting and marketing, which is really useful.
What’s the story behind your brand?
The name of my business WintherLand, comes from my last name Winther. ”Vinterland” in Swedish or ”winter wonderland” in English is supposed to express the creative world of Winther, in other words, me!
After a few years of creating all sorts of interior decor items I started to paint and create art prints. Today I feel that the visual art field is where I belong and hopefully my brand will evolve with it for years to come.
What inspires you to create?
As inspiration I almost always use nature. I spend a lot of time outdoors, in the woods and forests near where I live in Stockholm. I bring a lot of stuff with me home that I find on my hikes, such as leaves, pine cones, nuts and pretty much everything I can carry. I often use what I find, creating directly with it or inspired from it, with different techniques and with different art mediums.
Besides from my immense nature inspiration I also create a lot of abstract art. What I love with the abstract art is that I never know how it will turn out and what the finished print will look like, which is always super exciting! These two ways of creating gives me a creative balance that I really enjoy.
What made you decide to start your own company, and what do you like most about it?
For me, it was and is very important to create and to express myself creatively so I knew I wanted to build my own business, to be able to do it every day and to be able to support myself doing something that is meaningful and satisfying. I love the flexibility of being a business owner, deciding when to work and where to work, and to have the creative freedom it gives you.
What are your plans and dreams for the future?
For the future I hope to grow my business and sell my art prints around the world. The possibilities of internet and social media gives you an opportunity to get in touch with people and businesses everywhere, so I hope that my art will reach a lot of different corners of the world eventually. I also hope to be able to continue to grow and evolve as an artist and to try new exciting techniques and art mediums and have the time to practice, practice and practice! If someone could create more hours in the day, that would be a great start!
